We are fully committed to safeguarding the welfare of all children who participate in our programmes. We believe that every child has the right to take part in sport and physical activity in a safe, positive, and inclusive environment, free from harm, discrimination, or undue pressure.

The wellbeing of the child is paramount, and all activities are delivered in line with best practice child safeguarding standards.

2. Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to:

All coaches, assistants, and volunteers

Parents and guardians participating in sessions

All children attending classes and programmes

It covers all activities delivered as part of our multi-skill and multi-sport classes for children aged 1.5–5 years.

3. Guiding Principles

Our safeguarding approach is guided by the following principles:

The welfare of the child is always the first priority

Children are treated with respect, dignity, and fairness

Activities are inclusive and accessible to children of all abilities

Parents and guardians play an active role in supporting their child

Concerns are taken seriously and acted upon appropriately

4. Roles and Responsibilities

Programme Lead / Coaches

All coaches involved in the programme:

Have completed Child First safeguarding training

Have completed the Sport Ireland Child Safeguarding Course

Are Garda vetted in line with national requirements

Act as positive role models at all times

Deliver sessions in a safe, age-appropriate, and inclusive manner

Follow this safeguarding policy and related procedures

Parents and Guardians

Must remain on-site during sessions

Are encouraged to actively participate alongside their child

Are expected to support positive behaviour and respectful interaction

Share responsibility for their child’s wellbeing during sessions

5. Safe Practice Guidelines

To ensure a safe environment, the following practices are followed:

Sessions are delivered in open, observable settings

No one-to-one coaching takes place without a parent or guardian present
